Bell RSL Sub-Branch - Mahjong Community Games
In May 2025, the Bell RSL Sub-Branch proudly secured grant funding through Council's Community Projects Program to purchase Mahjong sets and tables, laying the foundation for a vibrant new activity aimed at strengthening mental health and social connection.
Recognising the cognitive benefits of Mahjong, including improved memory, concentration, and strategic thinking, Bell RSL members championed the creation of the Mahjong Community Games. This weekly gathering now welcomes 24 participants, fostering friendships, stimulating minds, and utilising the Bell RSL Hall, which has long hosted Anzac and Remembrance Day events.
Incredibly, volunteers have successfully trained newcomers in Mahjong who are now teaching Mahjong classes every Thursday at the Bell RSL Hall from 2pm - 4pm.
We acknowledge the Bell RSL Sub-Branch’s vision and commitment in launching the Mahjong Community Games, a truly enriching program that brings people together and promotes mental wellbeing.
The Community Projects Program supports equipment purchases, capital infrastructure, upgrading of facilities to meet standards, regulations and community expectations, meet changing community needs and/or increase facility usage.
