A fresh look for a local landmark

The Bell Big Blade has quickly become a popular attraction for travellers, families, and community groups, with many staying to explore nearby historical sites and businesses. Neighbouring the Big Blade is the historic Bell Railway Station and its railway mural, a landmark that plays an important role in showcasing the town's character and history. The mural was originally painted in 2001 to celebrate Bell’s centenary, but had significantly faded over the past 25 years. Following the opening of the Big Blade, the Bell Progress & Heritage Association recognised an opportunity to enhance the precinct by restoring this important piece of local heritage.

Funding from the Community Projects Program allowed the group to engage with Western Downs artist Graeme McCullough (Gazart), a talented artist and painter whose works have been featured throughout the region. Graeme used his experience with creating murals to refresh the paintings, all whilst staying true to the design and style of the original artist Neville Hopewell.

Now restored, the Bell Railway Mural once again stands as an inviting landmark for both residents and visitors to enjoy.
