The Western Downs is home to many Returned & Services League (RSL) Clubs and Sub Branches, who play an important role in ensuring the spirit of the ANZACs and veterans remains present in our community.

These groups help preserve and share stories of local veterans, while also connecting current residents, families and visitors through shared history and community pride.

The Meandarra Glenmorgan Sub Branch and Citizens Auxiliary recently celebrated an incredible milestone of 80 years.

Veterans, their families, past residents and community members were welcomed to Meandarra to celebrate the anniversary and unveiling of the Honour Wall. The event brought together members of the broader RSL community, with branches travelling from Stanthorpe, St George and Roma.

The Honour Wall provided an opportunity for many current residents to form links with previous owners of properties they now own, creating meaningful conversations across generations and strengthening the connection between past and present.

The Community Events Program supported the event through providing funding towards venue and equipment hire costs, as well as the creation of invitations and promotional flyers.

The day was further supported by the dedication of the wonderful volunteers who contributed their time and effort to event planning, preparation and delivery.
