A short seven kilometre drive south of Condamine you’ll find Caliguel Lagoon. If you love being around the water, this camping destination has everything you need – it's a fantastic spot for kayaking, skiing, swimming and fishing. It's also a great spot for birdwatchers to while away time spotting the abundant bird life.

Caliguel Lagoon has all of the facilities you need to stay in comfort, including a disability toilet, outdoor shower, barbecues, picnic facilities, and a playground. 

Pets are permitted on leash only.

Caliguel Lagoon is a free campsite with no bookings required. Please note limited powered sites are available.

Access:
From Condamine, head south on the Leichhardt Highway (A5) for 3.1 kms and turn onto Condamine-Meandarra Road. You’ll find the campground 4.1 kms on the left.

If you travel nine kilometres south of Chinchilla you’ll stumble upon the Chinchilla Weir, situated along the Condamine River. The camping area has a pleasant bush setting and is ideal for water sports, fishing and bird watching.

Facilities include toilets, picnic tables, shelters, barbecues, and a playground. You’ll have to bring your own drinking water and fishing license, but the serenity is on the house.

Pets are permitted on leash only.

Fees:
Chinchilla Weir is accessed on a first come, first served basis with no bookings required.
Powered sites are limited, with donations for camping accepted at the Chinchilla Visitor Information Centre.
Maximum stay of two nights.

Travel nine kilometres south from Chinchilla on Tara-Chinchilla Road, with access to the weir on the left side.

Chinchilla Weir Boat Ramp - Low Water Caution

Council would like to advise that the Chinchilla Boat Ramp remains open. Reduced storage levels mean submerged and emerging hazards may be closer to the water surface.

Council recommends boat operators exercise increased caution and operate at 6 knots in low-water conditions, pending any applicable speed requirements. Before launching, skippers should review current conditions and available Sunwater submerged- hazard information, maintain a proper lookout, and consider whether the water depth, available navigable area, and conditions are suitable for their vessel and planned activity.

Council will continue monitoring storage levels and site conditions. Further controls may be introduced if water levels continue to decline or the assessed risk changes.

Vessel operators remain responsible for the safe operation of their vessel and compliance with Queensland Marine safety requirements.

Four and a half kilometres south of Miles along the Condamine Road, you’ll find the camping oasis of Gil Weir. A fisherman’s haven, the Weir is stocked with Murray cod and golden perch (fishing permit required). Cool off with a dip in the Weir, hang with the local pelicans and bring your dogs for a walk.

Whilst here don’t miss a golden opportunity to visit the Miles Historical Village Museum. 

Facilities include toilets, picnic tables, wood barbecues and waste bins.

Pets are permitted on leash only.

Travel 4.5 kms south of Miles on the Leichhardt Hwy, turn right onto Gil Weir access road and proceed a further 1.2 kms to the weir.

Jandowae offers ample camping and caravanning facilities to pull up and settle in for up to three nights. The showgrounds offer affordable and convenient options for larger caravans, and your fur-friends can come along for the adventure. Call ahead to check availability and avoid disappointment.

Jandowae Showgrounds has all of the amenities you need to stay in comfort, including toilets, and hot showers.

Accommodation parks can host you for short or long-term stays, with powered sites and cabins and onsite commercial kitchens available. Please contact the caretaker regarding fees.

If you like to wake up to views of the water, pitch your tent at Lake Broadwater Conservation Park. You’ll find it 30 kilometres outside of Dalby, nestled on the banks of Lake Broadwater - the only naturally occurring freshwater lake on the Darling Downs.

The lake is a popular destination for water sports including power boating swimming, skiing, and kayaking. Fishing is strictly prohibited.

Embrace the noisy Neighbour's – there’s more than 230 species of birds recorded at the park, including flocks of Sulphur-crested Cockatoos and Rainbow Bee-eaters.

Facilities include toilets, showers, powered and unpowered sites, a kids' playground, shelters, camp kitchen, and barbecues. 

Fires are allowed in the designated fireplaces (except when fire bans or prohibitions apply), campers will need to supply their own firewood.

Temporary Closure - Lake Broadwater Boat Ramp 

Council would like to advise that the boat ramp at Lake Broadwater will be closed from Tuesday 2 June 2026 until Wednesday 2 December 2026. The closure is due to unsafe operational conditions from shallow water levels.

Tara Lagoon is a camper’s and fisherman’s haven, stocked with yellowbelly, jewfish and yabbies to inspire your camp cook-ups. Bring your kayak and canoe for a leisurely paddle (no power boats). 

You can also stretch your legs and go sightseeing – the lagoon is surrounded by a Memorial Park and a pathway along the water's edge that provides a tranquil walking or cycling track.

Facilities include toilets, showers, barbecues, kids' playground, and a picnic area.

Pets are permitted on leash only.

Unpowered Site $ 5.70 per night 

Maximum 14-night stay. Pre-booking is not available.

Waterloo Plains, 70 kilometres north of Miles in Wandoan, is a bird lover’s paradise. Pitch your tent amongst 11 hectares of parkland hugging the water lily-clad lake.

Keep your birdwatching book handy – up to 30 species of birds have been spotted within 30 minutes at this park.

A free five kilometre park run/walk is available every Saturday at 7am. Take a stroll or run through the environmental park, exploring the native birdlife and natural surrounds.

Facilities including picnic tables, hot showers, toilets, bins, barbecues, and a kids' playground, making this a comfy campsite for a night or two.

Waterloo Plains is a free campsite for a night or two with no bookings required.

Located in Meandarra, Brigalow Creek Campground, is a large, flat grassy area, which offers creek side camping at its finest. This is the perfect place to get back to nature, relax and throw a line in.

The sites are spacious, quiet and pet friendly. Enjoy a paddle down the creek and check out the beautiful, rare water lilies, spot some of the native birds nesting or go fishing for Golden Perch or Jew fish. 

A lovely spot to enjoy the region or just a morning tea stop on your journey.

Facilities including picnic tables, hot showers, toilets, bins, and barbecues, making this a comfy campsite to stay.

Pets are permitted on leash only.  

Fees: Brigalow Creek Campground is a free campsite with no bookings required.

Access: The site is on the corner of the Condamine - Meandarra Road, where it enters the town area from the north.
