Eight community-led projects in Wandoan have welcomed a $51,464 funding boost through Western Downs Regional Council’s Wandoan Community Grant program.

The funded initiatives included facility upgrades, the purchase of 3D printers, and the delivery of new online literacy programs, reflecting a strong focus on improving local services and learning opportunities.

Successful applicants were recognised at a special presentation held in Wandoan on Thursday 11 June, following the release of the grant program earlier this year.

Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development, Councillor Peter Saxelby said the applications highlighted the strength and dedication of Wandoan’s volunteer community.

"Whether it's enhancing community facilities, improving access to educational resources, or preserving local history, every project will create a lasting impact,” Cr Saxelby said.

"The Wandoan Community Grant has provided a valuable opportunity to empower local not-for-profit groups and bring forward projects that will continue to support residents for years to come.

"Council remains committed to empowering our regional communities to lead and deliver locally driven initiatives and events.

"Community groups, sporting clubs, and not-for-profit organisations are the backbone of our region, and their contributions play a vital role in strengthening community connection and resilience," Cr Saxelby said.

The funding formed part of a one-off program that was established following the disposal of the former Wandoan Golf Club, with proceeds reinvested to benefit the wider Wandoan community.

An internal assessment panel independently reviewed the ten applications, with eight projects approved for funding.

Unsuccessful applicants were contacted and received support in identifying other grant opportunities they may be eligible for.
