Stepping up for locals in need — 600 free hygiene packs now available
Published on 30 June 2025
Up to 600 free hygiene packs will be distributed across Western Downs Libraries, helping locals in need get access to free essential toiletries.
Hygiene packs are available from any Western Downs library branch with a voucher, which can be collected from your local police station, community centre or op shop.
Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Cr Peter Saxelby said CS Energy provided a $9000 grant through the Friends of the Library Association, (FOLA) providing 300 single hygiene packs and 300 family hygiene packs for community members in need.
"Each hygiene pack contains a selection of body washes, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste and laundry detergent," Cr Saxelby said.
"The cost-of-living crisis remains a significant issue in Australia, with some individuals and families unable to afford basic hygiene and cleaning products.
"When money is tight, hygiene products are often the first thing left off the grocery list, but the absence of these products can have a lasting impact on health and confidence.
"CS Energy's generous contribution is a shining example of how strong partnerships can make a real, tangible difference in our community.
"Together, we're delivering meaningful support where it's needed most and helping to build a more resilient and connected Western Downs."
Residents can collect a free hygiene pack by visiting any Western Downs library branch during regular operating hours.
