The region continues to demonstrate economic growth with a new large rural supplies store set to set up shop in Wandoan.

Western Downs Regional Council has approved the development application for a 500m2 retail and warehouse building, outdoor storage and nine car parking spaces on a vacant lot on Zupp Road.

Council Spokesperson for Planning, Environment and Agribusiness Councillor Andrew Smith said the development was another positive step for the region’s growing economy.

“The Western Downs is surging ahead as a prime regional centre for business and lifestyle, and this development is a vote of confidence in our region’s diverse economy,” Cr Smith said.

“There will of course be jobs during construction, but there will also be six jobs once the business is operational which is a fantastic outcome for Wandoan and the broader district.

“Agriculture is the region’s leading economic pillar and is currently the region’s largest employer followed by mining, manufacturing and energy production.

“Our economy is diverse, and Council takes a proactive approach in attracting new business and investment opportunities that are right for our region, and we are excited to see the development progress.”

The application was made by Burgess Group Australia.
