Have your say in the future of volunteering
Published on 07 September 2026
Western Downs Regional Council is inviting community members and volunteer groups to provide insight into the current state of volunteering in the region.
From sporting clubs and arts groups to religious organisations and community groups, volunteers from across the region are invited to have their say.
Council's upcoming Volunteer Strategy 2027-2031 will provide a clear framework for the coordination and implementation of volunteering across the region, outlining Council's leadership and partnership opportunities for the future.
Spokesperson for Tourism and Recreational Spaces, Councillor Kaye Maguire says the strategy will be a turning point for the future of volunteering in the Western Downs.
"Volunteers play a vital role within our communities, contributing their time, skills, and passions across different services, events, and programs in the Western Downs,” Cr Maguire said.
"We'll be asking why and where people volunteer, but we also want to understand any barriers that prevent our community from engaging in volunteering.
"These different perspectives will make sure the new strategy fosters positive outcomes for our current and future volunteers.
"Volunteers and community members of all ages are encouraged to have their say on the future of inclusive and meaningful volunteering in the Western Downs.
"We value the amazing work of our 140 Council volunteers working across our libraries, art galleries, and visitor information centres, as well as the many community volunteers that keep our region thriving.
"The new strategy will reflect best practice in volunteer management, recognition, and support, aligning clearly with the changing landscape of the volunteer sector."
Council's Community Partnerships team will be directly engaging with the community organisations and volunteers across the region to make sure everyone has an opportunity to provide insight.
Council's Volunteer Strategy survey is now open and will close on Saturday 31 October 2026.
The survey can be completed online via Council's online engagement platform: wdrc.au/volunteerstrategy
