Western Downs Regional Council is supporting local community groups to deliver exciting new programs and events for the region, with more than $54,000 awarded as part of the latest grants round.

Ten community groups have received funding as part of either the Community Projects Program or the Local Events Program, supporting various community driven initiatives.

Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said Council was proud to back local groups to deliver opportunities for locals to come together and be a part of the region’s active, vibrant community.

“We are a happy community, proud of where we live, and that’s largely thanks to the hard work of our local community groups who are dedicated to making the Western Downs a better place,” Cr Maguire said.

“As part of this grants round, Council has allocated a total $54,039 to various community groups as part of the two programs.

“More than $26,000 has been allocated under the Community Projects Program, which is about supporting groups to fund new or improved infrastructure for their facilities.

“Nearly $28,000 has also been allocated under the Local Events Program, which supports groups to deliver fantastic events for residents such as Christmas parties or community shows.”

Jandowae Kindergarten Director and Teacher Kelly Muller said Council’s Community Project Program enabled them to provide local kids with modern resources to support their learning and development.

“This grant will allow us to purchase a new interactive whiteboard to allow the children to access technology and engage in learning experiences using a large screen,” Mrs Muller said.

“Being in a rural area, we are sometimes limited in what we can access and offer the children and therefore an interactive white board will broaden these possibilities and opportunities.

“We are so grateful to the Western Downs Regional Council for supporting us in this venture as we know we wouldn’t have been able to achieve this outcome without their support.

“We would encourage other community groups to consider applying for this grant to support their upcoming projects. WDRC is here to support us and to ensure our region thrives and this is a wonderful way of doing so.”
