Community Activation

Western Downs Regional Council (WDRC) strives to create strong, active communities for our residents and visitors to enjoy. We endeavour to achieve this through;

  • local support networks developed with our Community Activation Officers (CAO's) based out of Chinchilla, Dalby, Miles and Tara customer service centres,
  • the delivery of key community initiatives and programs,
  • partnerships with local community groups, and
  • providing support and resources to deliver successful events and initiatives.

Our Approach

Our communities have the experience, knowledge and expertise to achieve exceptional social, cultural, and economic outcomes for our wonderful region. Our Council Team approaches this space with an activation mindset and proudly supports those involved in delivering these initiatives.

What we are doing

Together we make a real difference - by adding value to our vibrant communities and enhancing liveability, we are advocating the Western Downs region as a great place to work, live and play!

Community Activation brings together people from community groups and organisations, local and state governments and private enterprises to work collaboratively and bring about positive engagement in their communities.

Council is proud to provide the opportunity for people to share knowledge and resources, creating strategic and collaborative approaches to projects, community events and campaigns. This is achieved by:

  • the use and promotion of My Community Directory + Diary,  a tool for not-for-profit groups, community members and visitors to keep up to date with what's happening in the region,
  • supporting and delivering community activation events such as Australia Day, Anzac Day, Seniors Month and Youth Week,
  • providing event management and stakeholder engagement advice to community groups and organisations who deliver events and programs,
  • seeking partnership opportunities with community groups,
  • supporting opportunities for placemaking to create vibrant spaces where people feel good, want to spend time and to tell others about, and
  • providing support to not-for-profit community groups and organisations with upskilling opportunities through workshops, grants and funding opportunities.
