Western Downs Regional Council provides a number of animal management services to the community. Find out more on the pages below:

Council Animal Control Facilities

Council Pounds

Council has two Pound facilities which operate between 8am and 4pm weekdays, however access is by appointment only which can be arranged by contacting Council on 1300 COUNCIL (1300 268 624)

Chinchilla Pound is located at 238 Slessar Street, Chinchilla.

Dalby Pound is located along Drew Street off the Dalby-Jandowae Road (Via Healy Street).

Council Off-Leash Dog Parks 

Council currently provides two off-leash dog parks, where owners can safely exercise their dogs off-lead. The parks are fully fenced with water stations and seating for owners.

Chinchilla Off-Leash Dog Park is located at Old Bees Park on the corner of Glasson Street and Tara Road, Chinchilla 

Dalby Off-Leash Dog Park is located on the corner of Coxen Street and Condamine Street, Dalby 

Please observe the following simple rules whilst in the park to ensure all users enjoy the experience: 

  • have your dog under effective control - i.e. ensure your dog will come to you when called, will stop and sit when you give instruction 
  • prevent your dog from attacking or worrying other dogs or owners 
  • access hours for the park are from 6am to 7pm daily 
  • dangerous, menacing, restricted or potentially aggressive dogs are prohibited in the park 
  • ensure your dog is wearing its registration tag 
  • respect nearby residents, please minimise noise 
  • ensure gates are properly closed behind you 
  • place your dog back on-leash when leaving the park 
  • clean up after your pet - bags and bins are located near the entrance of each dog park
  • avoid contact with the fence 
  • report any maintenance issues to 1300 COUNCIL (1300 268 624) 
  • enjoy your time with your dog
