Western Downs Libraries has turned the page on another successful chapter winning their fourth consecutive Queensland Public Library Association Award (QPLA) for their groundbreaking History Hub project.
Western Downs Libraries received the QPLA Award for Innovation in Heritage Services, reinforcing the region's reputation for creativity, community engagement and forward-thinking library services.
Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Peter Saxelby said the award is a testament to the innovation and community pride that defines the Western Downs.
"History Hub is a dynamic digital platform that invites residents to upload their own photos and stories, creating an online collection that celebrates the people, places and events that have shaped the Western Downs," Cr Saxelby said.
"This award is something our whole region can be proud of and to be recognised once again at the QPLA Awards highlights the passion, creativity and commitment of our library team in connecting people to their history in new and meaningful ways.
"The History Hub launched at the Chinchilla Library this year with photos featuring the pioneering days of agriculture, the challenges of natural disasters, as well as the triumphs of local sporting groups and community milestones in the Western Downs."
The Innovation in Heritage Services Award recognises projects that use creative and collaborative approaches and promote Queensland's cultural heritage.
Councillor Saxelby said the Western Downs Libraries team continue to lead the way in preserving the moments of our region's history through community engagement.
"A key feature of the History Hub is the collection of mystery images," he said.
" Western Downs Libraries are calling on local history buffs and long-time residents to help solve these mysteries and contribute their knowledge to uncover the stories behind the image."
