Twenty new apprentices and trainees have started their new careers in the Western Downs as part of Council's popular Kickstart Program.

The latest intake will take roles across the region, based in in Chinchilla, Dalby, Jandowae, Miles, and Tara, where they will complete their nationally recognised qualifications and gain real-life industry experience.

Councillor Ian Rasmussen, Council spokesperson for Finance, Corporate Services, and Business Strategy, said Council’s Career Program, Kickstart, played an important role in the continuing economic and social development of the region.

“In this year’s intake, trainees and apprentices have accepted positions across several fields including Parks and Recreation, Civil Construction, Information Technology, Plumbing, Diesel Fitting, Water Operations, Civil Construction, and Business” Cr Rasmussen said.

“The Western Downs is a diverse region at the forefront of a changing world. Our early career programme plays an important role in ensuring that we remain at the forefront of the changing environment we live in, by helping to support our strong, diverse economy through equipping our residents with skills and industry experience. It's an investment not only in the future of these individuals but also the future of the Western Downs.

"Council believes that it is never too late for a career change or to kickstart a career, we encourage people of all ages to apply for this programme"
