Ready to flex your business muscles? The Murilla Fitness Centre, a cornerstone of community health and wellbeing in Miles, is opening its doors to a new fitness operator.

Western Downs Regional Council is accepting applications until 5pm Sunday 10 May 2026 and is actively seeking a passionate individual or business to take the reins and champion the day-to-day operation of this central wellness hub.

The opportunity is open to suitably experienced fitness managers or business operators seeking to run the centre as their own business; while ensuring it continues to provide a safe, inclusive and welcoming space for the local community.

Council Spokesperson for Facilities Councillor Sophie Bougoure said the Murilla Fitness Centre plays an important role in supporting community health, wellbeing, and social connection in Miles and the wider district.

“In the Western Downs, it’s the people that make it, and our fitness and recreational spaces are vital places where residents come together to stay active and be part of supportive communities,” Cr Bougoure said.

“This opportunity allows an experienced operator to put a local touch on the centre, while being supported by Council to ensure the facility continues to meet community expectations.”

Cr Bougoure said the new operator will have the flexibility to implement their own brand and service offerings with Council's continued major building maintenance support.

“Being able to build your own fitness brand in an established facility, with Council support behind you, makes this a strong opportunity for the right person or business,” she said.

"We are looking for an operator who understands the value of community connection and is motivated to grow participation in fitness and wellbeing across the region.

"Murilla Fitness Centre is a fantastic facility that connects to the local Aquatic Centre, located near the Miles and District Football Club and Miles Tennis Club."

Applicants are invited to apply for the management role before 5pm Sunday 10 May 2026 by visiting wdrc.au/Murilla-fitness. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit their proposal and outlined plans by 5pm Sunday 7 June 2026 for panel assessment.

A site visit is scheduled for Wednesday 29 April at 11am for applicants to view the centre and have their questions answered.
