Tara Aquatic Centre Complete

The Tara community is set to benefit from new and exciting recreational opportunities, with Western Downs Regional Council completing an $8.5 million upgrade of the Tara Aquatic Centre.

The project has delivered a modern aquatic precinct for the area, offering new sporting and recreational facilities and fresh opportunities for the community to come together and connect.

Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Paul McVeigh said the upgraded centre would support a range of community uses.

"Council is committed to ensuring its facilities are attractive, safe, and accessible and the completion of the Tara Aquatic Centre will offer a fresh space for the community to come together and enjoy some outdoor fun and fitness," Cr McVeigh said.

"The revitalisation has included a complete replacement of the main pool, which was in a seriously poor condition, the installation of a disability ramp and lane, pool heating to extend the swimming season, new kiosk and amenities, an accessible adult change facility, new open communal spaces for community enjoyment, and state of the art infrastructure and equipment to prolong the life of the new asset."

Cr McVeigh said the new facility offered opportunities for all kinds of swimming activities such as Learn to Swim, squad training, representative meets, recreational swimming, and rehabilitation or allied health.

"Gone are the days where pools are simply a place to take a dip, they are vibrant community hubs that bring people together to have fun and connect," he said.

"We are excited about welcoming the community to the revitalised Tara Aquatic Centre and we will be celebrating its completion with a massive family pool party on Saturday 28 October from 10am to 2pm.

"We're encouraging everyone to come along and take part in the festivities, with a monster inflatable, live DJ, jumping castle, dunk tank and trampolines, face painting, food and drink, and free goodie bags and giveaways.

"We know the project has had its challenges and Council has learned from this experience. We also know the community will love this revitalised facility, and we are excited to work alongside the pool operator to ensure the new space is valued and enjoyed by the community.”

The Tara Aquatic Centre will open from 12pm Tuesday 19 September and residents will receive free entry to the revitalised centre until the community pool party on 28 October.
