Plans are underway to deliver a revitalisation of the Miles CBD with Western Downs Regional Council seeking community help to develop a design for a new streetscape.

The project will focus on enhancing the vibrancy of the central business district strip along the Warrego Highway by potentially upgrading landscaping, pedestrian links and street art while showcasing the town’s unique character.

As part of the initial planning phase for the project, Council has engaged CoDesign Studio and Vee Design to undertake consultation with the community to develop a vision for the project.

Spokesperson for Economic Development Councillor Donna Ashurst said the project would revitalise the main town strip and encourage more people to meet, dine and shop locally.

“Council is committed to boosting our active, vibrant communities and that’s why we’re investing in a project to revitalise the Miles CBD streetscape,” Cr Ashurst said.

“When our towns are looking fresh, vibrant and inviting, it encourages more people to head outdoors and enjoy their local surroundings, as well as offering new opportunities for tourists and commuters to stop, spend time and ultimately boost the local economy.

“In early February, the consultation team will be hosting a series of workshops which will encourage residents and business community members to share their ideas and pave the way for a new and exciting look for Miles.

“From there, the team will develop a draft concept design for the project which will be fine-tuned in consultation with the community before a final concept is finalised.

“Our community members are the loudest advocates for what’s great about our region and I encourage all locals to get involved and share their ideas as part of community consultation.

“The final concept will ensure the project is ‘shovel ready’ and Council will then seek funding support from other levels of Government for construction.”
