Our Region's most outstanding artists celebrated at Regional Artist' Exhibition Opening

This year’s most talented Western Downs artists have been crowned in the 2022 Regional Artists’ Exhibition, which celebrated creativity across various artforms.

This year's exhibition theme was Kaleidoscope, allowing inspiring artists to create pieces that evoke the endless cycle of creation and destruction as things fall apart and are put back together again.

The exhibition was opened at Dogwood Crossing in Miles on the 5th November, with the winners selected from works submitted by 34 local artists across a variety of media, including painting, drawing, printing, photography, digital art, textiles, sculpture, and glass.

Councillor Kaye Maguire, Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development, said this year’s entrants went above and beyond by embracing the theme and delivering exceptionally high standards of work.

“It is an absolute pleasure to see our local artists showcased again this year. This year's entries have been simply spectacular, with a huge array of artworks submitted that really took the theme to a new level.

“The Regional Artists’ Exhibition is renowned as the preeminent visual creative arts event in our region. It is all about showcasing the skills and talent of those people that help make our region so vibrant and inclusive.

“I must acknowledge the hard work of our host, without whom this fantastic initiative would not have been possible. Thank you to everyone at Dogwood Crossing @ Miles for such a fabulous evening.”

The Regional Artists' Exhibition is an initiative of Western Downs Regional Council in partnership with the region's premiere galleries; Dogwood Crossing @ Miles, Gallery 107 @ Dalby and Lapunyah Art Gallery, Chinchilla. Winner's prizes were sponsored by the Windsor Hotel, Murilla Foodworks, Creek Café, Kerwick's Earthworks, Nebgar Engineering Miles, Mace's Hot Bread Miles, REStech Solutions, SHELL | QGC and Murray's Art & Framing.

The works will remain on show at Dogwood Crossing until 28 January 2023. For those unable to attend in person, the exhibition will also feature on the Western Downs Arts website as a virtual Gallery and 3D exhibition.
