Mayor Paul McVeigh and his team of eight Councillors have elected their portfolios and announced Cr Andrew Smith as Deputy Mayor at Western Downs Regional Council’s first meeting held recently (Monday, 27 April).

Cr McVeigh said he was prepared for another successful term with Western Downs Regional Council, with his Councillors bringing a balance of experience and fresh ideas to get the job done.

“Our Councillors bring a wealth of knowledge and talents along with a strong passion to support our communities and endeavour to make them proud of Council’s achievements,” Cr McVeigh said.

“The new Portfolio allocations are a strong representation of everything our Council does to support our communities and boost tourism and economic growth in the region.

“I’d like to congratulate Cr Andrew Smith who has been elected unopposed as Deputy Mayor and I’m excited to be working closely alongside him for another four years.

“We’ve started our term strong with the decision to deliver our $50 million COVID-19 Recovery Package to create jobs and support our communities and local economy.

“This decision was made possible by the strong financial position we’ve situated ourselves in over the past four years, so I’d also like to acknowledge the work of outgoing Councillors Donna Ashurst, Greg Olm and Ray Brown.”
