Community asked to help shape region's future

Residents are invited to help shape the future direction of Western Downs Regional Council for the next five years, with community consultation now open for the draft Corporate Plan.
The next Corporate Plan will set long term goals to guide Council's strategic direction, service delivery, and advocacy priorities from 2026 through to 2031.
Council Spokesperson for Corporate Governance and Finance Cr George Moore said the Corporate Plan was designed to demonstrate how Council will turn community priorities into action, guiding organisational decisions around future projects and services.
"The engagement process, which starts on 8 December, is a crucial step in creating a shared strategy for the future sustainability and prosperity of the Western Downs region," Cr George Moore said.
"The Corporate Plan defines Council's vision, priorities, and goals for the five years ahead, guiding decision making around budget, projects, and resource allocation.
"Council is calling on all members of our community to have their say during this consultation period to ensure our next Corporate Plan reflects the future needs and aspirations of our residents."
Cr Moore said the Corporate Plan outlined Council's objectives under four strategic priorities: diverse, thriving economy; vibrant, connected communities; balanced, prosperous lifestyle; and sustainable, effective Council.
"These are the four pillars that govern our Council's commitment to people, progress, performance and place," he said.
"The plan also reaffirms our commitment to meaningful communications and community engagement and sets down our key advocacy priorities - transport, water, telecommunications and our economy.
"Council is required to update its Corporate Plan every five years to ensure it meets the evolving needs of its communities under the Local Government Act 2009 and the Local Government Regulation 2012 and we're looking forward to hearing the community's feedback on this draft."
