Now in its seventh year, Council's free Not Just For Laughs comedy tour promises side-splitting entertainment while lifting the spirit of communities impacted by hardship.

Comedians Fiona McGary and Andrew Barnett will visit Jandowae, Tara and Miles this week as a part of the popular comedy event, created to support cohesion and resilience and reduce isolation in our rural communities.

Councillor Kaye Maguire, Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development said the tour has always proven popular with residents of the Western Downs, and with good reason.

"It’s easy to see what a welcome boost Not Just for Laughs has been for our communities given the endurance of the initiative, as well as turnout at the events," she said.

"While it was originally created to raise the morale of drought-affected families, with the ongoing effects of COVID-19 and multiple weather events, our people deserve a fun, free night out — so we're delivering for our active vibrant communities.

"Comedy of course will be the highlight of the night, but we also want to provide practical support. We're so pleased that Chinchilla-based not-for-profit Drought Angels will be in attendance and sharing the services they offer to rural and farming communities."

Food and drink will be available for purchase at the events, with profits going back to local community groups. Home-grown musicians will also entertain audiences with live music after the comedy sets.

Although attendance is free, Councillor Maguire warns that spots won't be available for long.

"Tickets are still up for grabs but they are being snapped up quickly, so I'd encourage residents to book in now before it's too late!"
