Business Programs offer maximum recovery support to local businesses

Western Downs Regional Council has announced a comprehensive Business Support Program as part of the $50 million COVID-19 Recovery Package to secure local jobs and energize the economy.

• Business Recovery Planning Program to help business build resilience by providing advice on cash flow and relief, turnaround and possible growth strategies, implementing a risk management plan and business continuity plan
• E-Commerce Support Program to include webinars and one-on-one consultations to help businesses build their online presence, social media and website
• Regional ‘Buy Local’ Campaign to encourage the community to support local businesses and offer another platform for businesses to share their goods and services

The Business Support Program is designed to assist local businesses to prioritise risk mitigation, planning, and business recovery to help them through the COVID-19 crisis and keep the economy moving forward.

Mayor Paul McVeigh said local businesses had done an exceptional job adapting to the current circumstances, and now was the time to help them emerge through this health emergency.

“COVID-19 has resulted in significant financial pain for our businesses, so Council has dedicated maximum efforts to ensure we can offer the best support possible,” Cr McVeigh said.

“The Program will deliver three initiatives; Business Recovery Planning, Enabling E-Commerce and a Buy Local Campaign, all of which focus on building business resilience while promoting local purchasing in Western Downs communities.

“These three initiatives are designed to help businesses right here and now, while also giving them the tools and the know-how to build business resilience and plan for the future.

“Through this initiative, business owners will be given advice on developing risk management and business continuity plans along with assistance in implementing an effective turnaround strategy.

“As social distancing measures are still in place, we will be working with the local Chambers of Commerce to provide online webinars and virtual consultations to assist local businesses in enhancing their digital presence and therefore increase online sales.

“Our businesses are the backbone of our local economy, and Council will also be working with local Chambers of Commerce to promote the importance of buying local and backing local business.”

To access Council’s Business Support Programs, local business owners will be required to submit an online application via Council’s website.
