Businesses in the Western Downs will once again have the opportunity to gain expert insight into generating more traffic and harnessing the power of reviews to provide better experience for customers, thanks to Council’s latest ‘How to Google My Business’ program.

Western Downs Regional Council and local Chambers of Commerce will partner for a third consecutive year to deliver free workshops to local businesses providing tools and strategies for businesses to be more visible to customers online.

Mayor Paul McVeigh said the Western Downs had incredible local businesses who produce world class products and offer great, friendly service and this initiative would help businesses to get noticed.

“Council knows that in the Western Downs it’s the people that make it, and we’re proud of our vibrant and motivated business community who do such great work to build our economy, that’s why Council chooses to support business with initiatives such as this,” Cr McVeigh said.

“This March we’re partnering with business experts, Business Navigator Western Downs, and our local Chambers of Commerce to offer seven free and convenient workshops across the region.”

Business Navigator Western Downs, Lead Business Coach Pauline Rorich said simple and cost-effective digital marketing tools, like Google My Business, were particularly good for small and start-up business.

“Getting a Google My Business listing up and running is a really simple and cost-effective tool to make your business much more visible online,” Ms Rorich Said.

“People searching online see your business, and they see unique experiences you offer, without additional cost to your business. That’s a good deal!”

Past attendee Kyra Davison from Switch’d Electrical said business support programs provided a view from the customer and highlighted the importance of marketing, even in rural communities.

“It’s not just about attracting new customers; we’ve even seen regular clients interact with our promotions and we’ve been able to track the results of our efforts, which gives clear insight into their effectiveness” said Ms Davison.

“The expert presenters help you to get the right information and use the right process the first time which boosts efficiency and time management.

How to ‘Google my Business’ workshops are free however participants are required to register and will require a laptop or smartphone to participate. For more information or to register, visit Council’s website: wdrc.qld.gov.au
