The blissful Lake Broadwater on the Western Downs is looking for eager and enthusiastic duos or families to call this beautiful location their home for the next two years in an exciting new role as the site’s full time live-in caretakers.

Following a major upgrade as part of Western Downs Regional Council’s COVID-19 Recovery Package, Lake Broadwater is now refreshed and ready to create more good times and great memories. The role of Site Caretaker is open to a duo, couple, or family who will live in the on-site 5-bedroom accommodation overlooking the lake and undertake grounds maintenance duties, community engagement, and visitor management.

Councillor Kylie Bourne, spokesperson for Tourism, Events and Regional Promotion, said that the Western Downs is home to many great sights and attractions and that finding someone who would not only be a welcoming face to the lake but would also be a strong advocate for regional tourism was very important.

"We have a motto in the Western Downs 'it's the people that make it' and the person taking on this rare and exciting role will be the face for our local communities to drive events and ensure this little slice of heaven will continue to be a popular part of our active, vibrant region for years to come,” Cr Bourne said.

Councillor Carolyn Tillman, spokesperson for Recreational Spaces and Cemeteries, said our beautiful natural landscapes and outdoor spaces contribute greatly to the quality lifestyle we enjoy on the Western Downs and that for this reason it is important that the role is filled by someone who is passionate about our region and its natural wonders.

"Lake Broadwater has always been a favourite recreational spot for locals and visitors but with the recently completed upgrades the Lake is now a jewel in our region's crown. The fantastic communal firepits, picnic shelters, powered camp sites and amenities blocks make Lake Broadwater a place to come together and celebrate the majesty of the great outdoors”, Cr Tillman said.

“The Western Downs is a great place to live, work and play and we’re positive that the right candidates will enjoy the beautiful surroundings, our unique and exciting events, and great lifestyle.
