Essence of Western Downs artists to go on show at Exhibition opening

Artworks from the Western Downs' most creative minds are set to go on show at the opening of this year's Regional Artists' Exhibition, hosted by Gallery107 @ Dalby on Saturday 16th September.
Held annually, the Regional Artists' Exhibition is a collaboration between the region's three major galleries and is the premiere showcase for the diverse talents of artists and creatives on the Western Downs.
Boasting an impressive prize pool of $3,800 with four category prizes, artists worked to the theme of 'Essence', contemplating what is beneath the surface of an object and inviting viewers to pause and engage deeply with what is right in front of them.
Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said this year's theme presented an exciting challenge, and she was excited to see the results.
"Our region is full of active, vibrant communities, made more so by the contributions of our talented local artists.,” Cr Maguire said.
“The Regional Artists' Exhibition is our opportunity to celebrate those people and their amazing artworks, whilst also fostering and encouraging others to get involved in arts and culture within the Western Downs.
"I always get so much enjoyment out of the Regional Artists' Exhibition. It really is the people that make it, and we can see that through the excellence of the pieces and increased interest in participating. This year a record number of entries were received, which is just fantastic."
Exhibition Curator Cara-Ann Simpson said this year's entries were diverse, compelling, and of an excellent standard.
"This exhibition is a celebration of the diversity and wealth of visual arts practices across the Western Downs and the artists involved have responded to the theme with unique, inspiring and thoughtful interpretations," Ms Simpson said.
"It reveals much about the relationships artists have with the Western Downs as both a place and community. Collectively, the artworks offer layered meanings that share the stories and experiences of a region."
The Regional Artists' Exhibition is an annual exhibition proudly presented by Western Downs Regional Council, supported by the Western Downs Galleries Committee represented by Lapunyah Art Gallery, Gallery 107 @ Dalby, Dogwood Crossing, Miles.
Opening night will be held on Saturday 16th September 2023 from 5:30pm at the Dalby Arts Centre, 23 Marble Street, with the exhibition running until the 10th of November. An online gallery and 3D virtual gallery will also feature on the Western Downs Arts website.
