Western Downs Regional Council has delivered a revitalisation of the Tara Pool which has provided a vibrant new aquatic facility for the area.

The project replaced an existing pool which was in an extremely poor condition, and enhanced a range of pool features and amenities.

The revamp supports a range of uses including Learn to Swim, squad training, representative meets, recreational swimming, and broader community get togethers. 

Key Features:

• brand new 25 metre pool with eight wider swim lanes
• disability ramp and lane
• accessible adult change facility
• heating to extend the swim season
• pool blankets to maintain water temperature
• open communal spaces for community enjoyment
• state of the art filtration systems
• new kiosk and amenities

Support Measures for Tara Community

Council implemented a range of measures to support the Tara community while the new Aquatic Centre was being constructed (two consecutive swim seasons). These measures included:

• Free entry to all Western Downs Regional Council pools for Tara residents
• Free Learn 2 Swim and Squad Swim Programmes for Tara residents
• Funding provided directly to the Tara Amateur Swimming Club to support travel costs to the total of $34,000. This funding is for the purpose of travel to any aquatic centre within region for the purpose of associated training and competition.
• Tara residents received free entry to the revitalised Aquatic Centre until the community fun day which was held on 28 October 2023

19 September 2023 - Project complete

14 February 2022 - Early site establishment and demolition works

8 December 2021 - Council endorses Taylor Builders to construct the new aquatic facility

Project Start Date:

February 2022 - Early works to remove the old pool structure and facilities to commence

March 2022 - Construction works commence

April - May 2022 - Earthworks complete

June - July 2022 - Concrete flooring and walls constructed

August - September 2022

• Frame work for kiosk area commenced
• Pool concreting completed
• Underground electrical & plumbing services in progress
• Foundations and blockwork for the swim club/pump room commenced

September - October 2022

• Pool tiling nearing completion
• Framework for buildings being erected
• Amenities building concrete being prepared
• Construction of roof trusses commencing

November 2022 - December 2022

• Installation of fixings within constructed buildings
• Concrete slabs for building complete
• Frame work to be installed with trusses to follow 

January 2023 - April 2023

• Concourse foundations 
• Undertake finishing touches to pool tiling 
• Roof framing 

May 2023 - June 2023

• Concrete paving around pool and carpark walkway 
• Roller doors installed
• Amenities flooring and wall tiling complete 
• Pool lighting installed 
• Car park re-sealing
• Pool filtration systems established 

July 2023 - September 2023

• Install of diving blocks, lane ropes and pool blankets 
• Final fit off for amenities block, Kiosk and Swim Club room  
• Landscaping 
• Filling of the new pool
• BBQ install
