An exciting opportunity exists for a couple, small business or family to further grow and activate Lake Broadwater Recreation Reserve as our caretakers and tourism ambassadors.

The successful applicants will make the onsite accommodation their home for two years (with an opportunity for two x twelve-month extensions). During this time, they'll play a key role in connecting with the community, welcoming travellers, championing the Western Downs as a must-visit travel destination and caring for the natural landscape and beauty of Lake Broadwater.

As the Caretaker at Lake Broadwater, you’ll welcome visitors, share the stories and character of the Western Downs and showcase the unique charm of this remarkable lanscape. Those wih a passion for the outdoors will relish the chance to nuture a natural haven rich with native flora and fauna, all while overseeing the onsite hall set against the sweeping views of the recreational lake.

Looking for a tree change? This could be the opportunity you've been looking for.

Just 240 kilometres west of Brisbane and a short 30‑kilometre drive from the region’s main service centre, Lake Broadwater welcomes travellers with easy access via the local township.

Dalby, home to more than 12,000 people, is the gateway to the Western Downs. Its manicured gardens, bustling main street and warm country hospitality make it a natural stopping point for visitors. As a vibrant regional hub with inviting cafés and a proud agricultural heritage, Dalby offers the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure.

Life here may be laid‑back, but it’s far from limited. Dalby and the wider Western Downs region provide high‑quality health care, excellent education options and a wealth of recreational facilities, including a swimming pool, library, leafy parks and well‑maintained sporting grounds.

Cultural life thrives too. Festivals and community events are woven into the local identity, with the biennial Dalby Delicious and Delightful Festival drawing crowds to celebrate multicultural food, music and entertainment for all ages.

A popular tourist destination and RV‑friendly town, Dalby is the ideal base for exploring Lake Broadwater—just 30 kilometres away. Nestled along the bank lies the only naturally occurring freshwater lake on the Darling Downs, offering affordable short‑term camping and convenient facilities right by the water’s edge.

The peaceful setting, surrounded by cypress pine, brigalow and eucalypts, is a haven for waterbirds and native wildlife. When full, the lake becomes a playground for boating, picnics, swimming and water sports. Birdwatchers can enjoy exceptional viewing from the hide near the lake’s narrow neck, where a remarkable variety of species can be spotted throughout the year.
