Christmas is right around the corner, and we are kicking off the festive cheer in the Western Downs!

This holiday season, the Western Downs will sparkle with festive spirit as community and Council events bring joy to every corner of the region. From carols and street parties to Christmas tree light-ups and more, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy!

See below a list of both Council-run and community-run events for you to enjoy:

Help Santa light up the Christmas Tree in Mary's Place. With Food vendors, kids craft activities, Christmas Story Time and music, this is a night not to be missed. Tree will officially be lit up at 7pm.

Meandarra Santa Fair 

Friday 12 December 2025 - From 5.30pm-9pm 

Meandarra School of Arts Hall - Sara Street, Meandarra 

Come join the Meandarra community to celebrate the Annual Santa Fair. There will be face painting, merry-go-round, and a Christmas Movie in the Hall. 

Tara's Christmas Carnival

Saturday 13 December from 5.30pm to 9.00pm 

Tara Showgrounds

Come along and join in on the Christmas Cheer at the Annual Tara Community Christmas Party hosted by The Tara Future's Group. There will be food and drinks available for purchase, live entertainment, markets stalls, a jumping castle and face painting. 

Glenmorgan Community Carols 

Saturday 13 December from 5.30pm

Join the Glenmorgan Community Church for a night of carols and celebrate the joy of Christmas together.

 

 

Christmas in the Country Competition

Decorate and win!

Show off your Christmas spirit this holiday season by decorating your house, fence, letterbox, roof or anything on your property.

Once you're done untangling the tinsel, polishing the baubles and sprucing up your display, take a picture (or several) and submit at our Christmas in the Country hub to go into the draw to win one of three vouchers!

The Christmas in the Country hub allows everyone to get into the Christmas spirit by submitting and sharing their displays for everyone to see! There is also an interactive map that allows you to drop a pin and let everyone know where your display is if you wish to share the Christmas cheer.

You don't have to submit to get involved, as you can look at all the entries and vote for any that you like. Your vote will go toward one lucky winner winning the 'People's Choice' award - a $50 local voucher!

The lucky winner, as judged by our Councillor's will receive a $200 local voucher, and the runner up a $100 local voucher.

You have until 10 December 2025 to get your entries in, so go ahead and 'Sleigh' those displays!
