Western Downs Regional Council is securing long-term liveability for the region through a new Communities Partnering Framework which sets the standard for doing business in the region.

The framework sets Council's expectations for large-scale companies and corporations operating in the region to foster and maintain great communities partnering culture for now, and into the future.

Mayor Paul McVeigh said the Framework clearly demonstrates Council's commitment to a connected, liveable region.

“A strong culture of communities partnering has been established in the Western Downs over the past two decades, which has enabled partnering relationships between the private sector, community organisations and Council,” Cr McVeigh said.

“Council is focused on growing these strong outcomes and empowering industry to support the notion of being good neighbours and positive contributors to the region.

“The Framework highlights key areas of focus including trusted partnerships, growing local talent, legacy investment in the community and infrastructure, pride in natural environment, acknowledgement and collaboration with First Nations community, and good governance and reporting.

“Part of the Framework includes a Self-Assessment tool which will allow businesses to assess their performance against the Communities Partnering Framework and if they choose, share their achievements and successes with the wider community and inspire others to achieve the same high standards.”

Cr McVeigh said the Framework also stipulated the commitment Council would make to enabling business growth and support in the region.

“This Framework emphasises the importance of strong partnerships with business and community, and Council promises to continue to attract business and investment opportunities that are the right fit for our region.” he said.

“We are committed to upholding our reputation as a fast and responsive local government, to actively seek and foster strategic partnerships and encourage meetings to discuss challenges and opportunities.

"By working together, we can ensure the region is a safe and welcoming place, and ensure our future generations can continue to live, work, and play on the Western Downs.”
