The region's youth will go head-to-head with friends and family as they take on one of the region's biggest ever obstacle courses at this year's upcoming Youth Event.

The mega-sized inflatable obstacle challenge will be constructed in Chinchilla next month as a part of an exciting celebration of young people throughout Youth Month.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Kaye Maguire said the Youth Event encourages young people to head outdoors and have some fun to celebrate Youth Month.

"The young people are the future of our region and play a huge role in bringing activity and vibrancy to our communities, so it’s great to be able to celebrate them and offer the chance for everyone to come together and have some fun,” Cr Maguire said.

“Last year's Youth Event was very well attended. The obstacle course was particularly popular, so it is great to be able to see this exciting challenge make its way back to the Western Downs.

"This year the fun continues, with the course featuring a variety of fun mega-sized obstacles, perfect for people of all ages and fitness levels. "In addition to the obstacle course, the town of Chinchilla will come alive for the day with many other great activities and stalls, including local food and beverage vendors, a DJ, face painting, laser skirmish and a jumping castle, making this the ultimate day out for young people.

"Celebrating our region’s young people at our annual Youth Month Event is something we look forward to every year and we cannot wait to have our residents tackle the biggest and best inflatable obstacle course the Western Downs has ever seen!

This free Youth Event will take place on Sunday 14 August between 10am and 2pm at the Chinchilla Recreation Grounds.

This event requires attendees to complete a waiver form before taking part in the giant obstacle course, and parent/guardian supervision is required.
