23 June 2015

Western Downs Regional Council and the Queensland State Emergency Services (QSES) are calling for a community-focused individual who exemplifies personal drive and integrity to join the newly restructured Western Downs SES Unit in the key volunteer role of Local Controller.

Mayor Ray Brown said the successful applicant will work closely with Council and the QSES Area Office in Toowoomba to lead and manage the Western Downs SES Unit’s response to disaster and emergency operations across the region.

“The Local Controller will provide a vital link in liaising directly with Council and the QSES, and play a key role in maintaining the operational effectiveness of the Western Downs SES Unit,” he said.

“We are seeking a person who is committed and passionate about giving back to their community, and enthusiastic and prepared to contribute to the ongoing development of our SES volunteers.

“The successful applicant will assist the recently restructured Western Downs SES Executive in bringing the SES groups across the region together to train and work in a cohesive and coordinated way.

“Candidates don’t need to have SES experience to apply for this role, but demonstrated skills in administration, finance, resource management, and good communication are desirable.”

Applicants must be prepared to undertake appropriate SES training modules identified within the SES Training Framework for this position.

Applications close 5pm Monday 29 June. For more information, visit www.wdrc.qld.gov.au or for an application pack please contact QSES Area Controller John Harrison on 0407 648 044 or JohnM.Harrison@qfes.qld.gov.au.
