Western Downs celebrates the region’s newest citizens

Western Downs Regional Council has this week welcomed 23 new residents to our community as part of the latest Citizenship Ceremony held in the region.

23 people made their pledge to our nation on Tuesday, 19 November with origins from the Philippines, South Africa, India, Sri Lanka, Hungary, Vietnam, New Zealand, France and Thailand.

Western Downs Regional Council’s Mayor Paul McVeigh said the region’s citizenship ceremonies were a significant part of the region’s annual celebrations.

“Our citizenship ceremonies go a long way in letting our newest residents know they are a valued part of the community,” Cr McVeigh said.

“Welcoming families to our region on behalf of our country as part of these special occasions is one of the nicest privileges I have as my role as Mayor and it’s fantastic to see so many people choosing to make our region home.

“The Western Downs is built on community pride and it’s so wonderful to see our newest so happy and excited to be recognised and celebrated.”

Tuesday marked the fourth and final citizenship ceremony for 2019, with the next ceremony to be held on Australia Day as part of the region’s wider celebrations.

Tuesday’s ceremony took place on at the Chinchilla Customer Contact Centre, Fuller Place, Chinchilla.
