This Year’s Christmas Cheer In Chinchilla

The Chinchilla Botanic Parkland will come alive with festive spirit this Christmas, with the Mayoral Christmas Carols and a spectacular light show set to dazzle the region for the first time.

The Parkland will transform into a sparkling wonderland with the Chinchilla Lions Club hosting a Light Show every night from 14 December, with the Mayoral Christmas Carols also adding to the magical events on offer.

Western Downs Mayor Paul McVeigh said the event would be a major drawcard for the region’s Christmas celebrations, promising to be bigger and brighter than ever before.

“The festive season is a wonderful time to come together and celebrate what it means to be a part of our great community,” Cr McVeigh said.

“The Mayoral Christmas Carols will kick off at 5:00pm on 14 December, aligning with the Chinchilla Lions Club’s first ever Light Show, which will see the Parkland showcase an array of colourful lights and festive features.

“A record 13-metre-high Christmas tree will also be installed at the Parkland, with local businesses supporting Council to ensure it’s installed safely and looking its best.”

Cr McVeigh said Chinchilla residents also had the opportunity to get into the spirit extra-early, with the community-run Christmas Street Party taking over Heeney Street from 5pm on Thursday, 12 December.

“Our community groups are going above and beyond this Christmas season, with a range of events planned for most of our towns, and Council is proud to support these exciting initiatives,” he said.

“Another highlight for this year’s Christmas calendar is the Dalby Christmas Tree Light Up, which will kick off at 5:30pm, 3 December and will feature a range of activities including face painting, horse and cart rides, free sausage sizzle, Storytime with the Mayor, and of course a visit from Santa.

“There’s plenty on offer right across the Western Downs this Christmas, and I encourage residents to head outdoors and get involved in the magic of the Christmas season.”
