Tara Water Supply Update – Drilling commences on new bore

21 October 2016

Western Downs Regional Council is about to commence drilling and installation on the new bore in Tara to increase the capacity and reliability of the town’s utilities network.

  • Local contractor Ehrlich Drilling commenced preliminary site preparation this week with drilling of the bore to commence Monday, 24 October 2016;
  • Construction of the new bore is expected to be completed by late November, weather permitting;
  • Construction will be undertaken Monday to Saturday, between the hours of 6.00am to 6.00pm; and
  • Residents are advised some construction activities, including drilling, may produce extended periods of low level noise

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Utilities Councillor Peter Saxelby said Council is one step closer to bringing the new bore online for the Tara community.

“After it was identified that the existing bore was nearing the end of its life, Council made the decision to replace it by drilling a new bore that will provide a cost effective and long-term sustainable solution for the community,” he said.

“It has been a priority of Council to fast-track the tendering process so we can commence construction on the new drill as soon as possible, so this week is certainly a milestone event for us and the Tara community.

“Construction works are underway on the corner of Fry and Smallcombe Streets, and will primarily consist of drilling and casing the bore to a depth of approximately 630 metres. Residents can be assured that associated low level construction noise will be limited where possible.”

Council would like to thank residents in advance for their cooperation and patience whilst these important construction works occur.
