Standpipe water rebates for drought-affected

Western Downs Regional Council is offering rebates on its standpipe water supply to support drought-affected residents across the region.

A rebate of 50% on standpipe water is available to eligible residents for both human consumption and watering stock.

Council Spokesman for Utilities Cr Peter Saxelby said the rebate was designed to take some of the pressure off those doing it tough in the community.

“At a time when our region is battling drought, we need to band together and do what we can to support those most affected,” Cr Saxelby said.

“Rebates are offered to residents living in a drought-declared area and can only be used for domestic use or stock use.

“Residents can find out whether they’re eligible for the rebates by visiting Council’s website which is equipped with a range of information.”

Council’s standpipes are located at several locations including Chinchilla, Miles, Dalby, Wandoan, Jandowae and Tara and can be accessed using Council’s Avdata key system between 7am and 7pm daily.

The rebate is only offered to households within the Western Downs Region without access to reticulated water supply. A tanker or shuttle with a two-inch camlock is also required to fill from the standpipes.

Residents are urged to contact Council on 1300 COUNCIL or visit Council’s website on www.wdrc.qld.gov.au to find out if they’re eligible and for assistance accessing the standpipes.
