Spring live music gets Western Downs moovin’ and groovin’

Groovin' Into TownThe Western Downs region will come alive this Spring, with a series of live music events to set toes tapping at several upcoming community events.

Following the success of last year’s Groovin’ into Town program, Western Downs Regional Council is keen to make this year’s series bigger and brighter.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said that the Groovin’ into Town initiative would add a little extra vibe to local markets, library events and art exhibitions in September and October.

“Council has invited a variety of local musicians deliver the program, which will see pop-up style music performances taking place at around 30 events over the next three months.” Cr Maguire said.

“Our local events calendar is an integral part of our vibrant Western Downs community, and Council is energizing our much-loved spring events by adding live music to the mix.”

Cr Maguire said the live music performances would also celebrate our up-and-coming musical talent.

“The initiative also celebrates our dynamic local music scene by offering our less-experienced musicians the opportunity to gain confidence and hone their performance techniques on home soil,” she said.

“Expect to see musicians Groovin’ into Town at local markets, the libraries FUN Palaces events and two art exhibition opening nights, with school students from across the region also participating.

“There’s something to suit all musical tastes, with bands covering a range of genres including jazz, country and electronic pop.

“All live music events are free to attend, and residents can either grab a bite to eat at the event or bring along their own goodies for a picnic, depending on the event.”
