Region shines at annual Dalby Picnic Races

5 May 2016

Over the weekend the Bunya Park Racecourse came alive with over 3,000 people for the 104th Annual Dalby Amateur Picnic Races, placing the spotlight on the region’s biggest country race meet of the year and celebrating the best of country hospitality.

Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Paul McVeigh said the Dalby Picnic Races is a highlight on our region’s events calendar bringing our communities and visitors from across the State together for a great day of country racing.

“Country race meets are a vital part of our local communities providing great opportunities to get together for a great day out as well as delivering benefits for local businesses and tourism in the Western Downs,” he said.

“This year’s Dalby Picnic Races was no exception bringing one of the largest crowds we’ve seen this year at a race meet in the Western Downs.

“It was remarkable to see the Dalby Picnic Race Committee pull out all the stops to showcase the best of our region from the Marquees to Fashions on the Field, as well as an outstanding race-program.

“We have such a strong community spirit here in the Western Downs, it was pleasing to see that our great country hospitality was plentiful throughout the day.

“Race meets like the Dalby Picnic Races celebrate and enrich the liveability of our communities, and I congratulate the Committee on organising such an outstanding event.”
