Visitors to Dalby will be greeted with refurbished facilities.

Dalby’s public toilets will be getting some attention with Western Downs Regional Council announcing it will refurbish facilities at Jimbour Street, Koehler Park, the Showgrounds and Dalby PCYC at the handing down of the 2018/19 Budget.

Spokesperson for Council Facilities Councillor Ray Brown said $157,000 has been allocated in the Budget to bring a better visitor experience for travellers taking a short break in Dalby.

“Everyone knows that on a long journey your first order of business when you take a break is to find the nearest public toilet,” he said.

“That’s why this financial year we’re giving the toilets in Jimbour Street a refurbishment to not only make it friendly for our visitors but also for parents and children who use the park.

“We’ll also be upgrading the old bush toilet at the Koehler Park rest area to a more environmentally friendly accessible toilet for campers and caravanners on their way to the Bunya Mountains.”

Cr Brown said the public amenities at the Dalby Showgrounds and the Dalby PCYC will also receive a facelift.

“We’ve had many dusty boots travel through the two shower blocks at the Dalby Showgrounds over the years and they’re now starting to show their wear,” he said.

“Kids at the Dalby PCYC will also see the well-used toilets in the old gymnasium receive a much-needed upgrade so that the staff there can continue to expand their youth, sport and recreational programs.”

By the end of the 2018/19 financial year visitors and locals to Thomas Jack Park will be treated to fresh new pubic toilets with works underway to remove the existing toilet block to make way for a larger modern facility for users of the park.

The Thomas Jack Park Toilet Replacement Project is a joint initiative of Western Downs Regional Council and the Queensland Government through the Works for Queensland Program.

Dalby PCYC Branch Manager Sergeant Mick Hughes said any investment and upgrade the Council puts back into the facility is a great outcome for PCYC members.

“We enjoy a wonderfully supportive relationship with Western Downs Regional Council and we’re very much on board with their reinvestment into the Dalby PCYC as part of their 2018/19 Budget,” he said.

“Council are always supportive of what we do and very open to assisting us to deliver what we do in the community.

“It helps us greatly when the reinvestment of the owner is up to scratch and we don’t have to find funds all the time, it means we’re able to keep our programs running and give our members and the community the support they need.”
