Our ‘Connections’ presents many possibilities for local artists

13 March 2015

Western Downs artists, crafters, potters, sculptures and designers of all ages can now submit their work for consideration in the second annual Western Downs Regional Artists’ Exhibition Connections, which will be hosted by the Chinchilla White Gums Art Gallery from Saturday 12 September to Wednesday 14 October.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development and Health Services Councillor Carolyn Tillman said the exhibition will place a spotlight on the creative talents of our region’s artists.

“This year’s theme, Connections, gives our local artists and craft workers the freedom to reflect on how we connect with the narrative of life, from our connections with our communities, to the environment and the many diverse connections we see around us,” she said.

“Artists are encouraged to explore the exhibition’s theme through their favourite medium, be it painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, assemblage, textiles, jewellery or any other medium they like to draw inspiration from and express themselves through.

“I invite artists and crafters of all ages from across our Western Downs to consider entering their work into the exhibition as it is a great opportunity to showcase and develop your portfolios within our wider art community.

“With such a rich theme, ripe with possibilities, I look forward to viewing the creative output of our region’s talented artists and crafters when the Connections exhibition opens in September.”

Artworks selected for the exhibition will go into the running to receive an award and monetary prize. All selected works will be published in the 2015 Western Downs Regional Artists’ Exhibition colour exhibition catalogue.

Entries for Connections must be submitted to Chinchilla White Gums Art Gallery, 86 Heeney Street, Chinchilla by 4pm, Monday 3 August.
