Theme – Phoenix Carol McCormack | Gulf blues 2018 | Acrylic on stretched canvas | 40cm x 40cm The impact of compounding national and global events – unprecedented drought, bushfires and now a global pandemic have had a profound effect on the entire Australian community. Bewilderment, fear and grief for life, property and our futures has been overwhelming. However, these terrible events have tapped into an amazing reservoir of humanity that has motivated family, friends, community and strangers to embrace positive collaborative action. Across the world people are finding creative ways in extraordinary circumstances of reaching out, maintaining both community and a sense of personal well-being. The danger has not passed, the journey is far from over and much will have to change, but already we can see the tremulous flutter of the Phoenix rising from the ashes. Artists are asked to respond to the ancient myth of the Phoenix rising from the ashes as seen through the lens of personal, community or environmental transformation from death and destruction to new life. Artists may respond in their favoured medium including but not limited to painting, drawing, assemblage, textiles, ceramics, sculpture, installation, photography and new media. Categories Entries can be submitted to one of four (4) categories: Painting: Oils, acrylic, watercolour and mixed media. Works on paper: Any work on a paper substrate including but not limited to pen, pencil, ink, collage (excluding watercolour, see painting category). Photography: Any photographic works either digital or analogue including digital art. 3D works: Including but not limited to ceramics, sculpture, installation, assemblage, textiles and woodwork. Prizes Category Prizes $2400 prize money is spread equally across the four categories – painting, works on paper, photography and new media and 3D. Open to all artists.
