Judges impressed by Australia Day Awards nominees

20 January 2015

Over 60 individuals and community groups are in the running to receive a 2015 Western Downs Australia Day Award in local and regional award categories with the judging panel happy to report that nominations were of a very high standard.

Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Ray Brown said the response to this year’s awards has been outstanding and the calibre of the nominations was remarkable.

“The judging panel have had a very difficult task selecting winners from an exceptional pool of selfless and dedicated people, groups and organisations who are doing great things in our community,” he said.

“These outstanding Aussies have been nominated by their fellow local residents for contributions to the community and for inspiring personal accomplishments which capture and embody the ‘Australian Spirit'”.

“It’s clear that we have strong community pride here in the Western Downs and on behalf of Council I would like to thank all those who took the time and effort to nominate such worthy recipients.”

“I encourage everyone to show your support for our regional community by coming along to one of the local ceremonies that will be held around the region on Australia Day.”

Mayor Brown said now’s the time to also start considering who you might nominate for next year’s Australia Day Awards.

“While the buzz of this year’s Australia Day Awards is fresh in our minds, it’s a great time to start thinking about who inspires you so that you can nominate them for next year’s awards, as nominations open from February and remain open until 5pm Tuesday 1 December 2015.”
