It’s on for young and old this Seniors Week

13 August 2015

Residents young and old from across the region are invited to join our senior citizens in celebrating their valuable contributions to our local communities at one of Western Downs Regional Council’s Seniors Week activities being held from Monday 17 August.

Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development and Health Services Councillor Carolyn Tillman said Council is embracing this year’s theme of ‘It’s on for young and old’ by encouraging residents of all ages to show their appreciation by attending a Seniors Week event and having a cuppa with our senior residents.

“This week-long celebration is a great opportunity for residents to celebrate the valuable contributions our older citizens make through their participation in volunteer work, sport, recreation and the arts in our local communities,” she said.

“This year, Council is delighted to have Queensland Fire and Emergency Services joining in on our Seniors Week celebrations by holding a ‘Senior and Safer’ presentation at all of our events.

“Our older residents and attendees will gain valuable information to assist in preparing their loved ones and homes for the upcoming storm, flood and fire season, as well as get the chance to chat with their local SES volunteers delivering the program.

“I encourage residents, both young and old, to take the opportunity to join our senior citizens for morning tea and some entertainment at one of the numerous events and activities planned by Council and our local community organisations across the Western Downs.”

Council hosted Seniors Week events will be held as follows:

  • Monday 17 August, 10am at Dalby Bowls Club (Tickets are $10 per person for lunch)
  • Monday 17 August, 10am at Miles Leichhardt Centre
