Help report theft in Jandowae

19 March 2015

Western Downs Regional Council is calling on residents to come forward with any information about the recent theft of the Jandowae Cemetery storage shed and fence panelling from the Miniature Railway in Lions Park in Jandowae.

Spokesperson for Community Facilities, Sport and Recreation Councillor Charlene Hall said Council is disappointed with the spate of recent theft and vandalism to Council-owned and community facilities in Jandowae.

“Sometime last Thursday night, thieves targeted the Jandowae Cemetery storage shed, stealing the wall sheeting, guttering and roller door, leaving only the frame. Then they returned sometime Friday night to steal the remaining frame. So now the Jandowae Cemetery has no storage shed and Council must pay to replace the structure,” she said.

“Meanwhile, a few weeks ago fence panelling was stolen from the Miniature Railway in Lions Park Jandowae. The thefts at these meaningful and well-used community facilities cause significant inconvenience to the public, create significant maintenance costs for Council, and give visitors to our region the wrong impression about our communities.

“Council urges anyone who is aware of any unwanted, illegal behaviour to report it to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or to Council on 1300 COUNCIL (1300 268 264).”
