Have a smashing good time at the Chinchilla Melon Festival

5 February 2015

The melons are ready, the games are set, and with only a few days left, the festivities for the 2015 Chinchilla Melon Festival will begin on Saturday 7 and run until Sunday 15 February.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Economic Development and Tourism Councillor Tony Brame said the festival, which is held every two years, gives visitors and locals a unique and quirky way to celebrate the best our region has to offer.

“The vibrant and distinctive Chinchilla Melon Festival has become a world renowned event for Chinchilla and district, attracting thousands of people from throughout the region, state, interstate, and abroad, to our region,” he said.

“Festival goers will be treated to an array of hands-on, messy and fun activities, with a variety of events, competitions and tours on offer from Saturday 7 February, while the ever-popular Melon Games will be held on the main Festival day, Saturday 14 February.

“So gather your friends and family and head to Chinchilla to sample some of our region’s juiciest primary products, absorb our community spirit and experience, and explore and enjoy the very best our region has to offer.”

Cr Brame extended a special thanks to the Chinchilla community, event organisers, and the region’s melon growers for coming together to bring the Festival to life.

“The Chinchilla community are to be commended for pulling out all the stops to host such a remarkable event. A tremendous amount of work and planning goes into organising such a large Festival and I would like to congratulate them on yet again staging a wonderful event.”
