Free training opportunities for community groups in the Tara District

22 January 2015

Following last year’s successful arts management workshops in Chinchilla, community groups in the Tara District will now have their own opportunity to improve their skills in events management and grant writing through two free, specialised training workshops to be held at the Tara Memorial Hall on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 February.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development and Health Services Councillor Carolyn Tillman said the workshops are a great opportunity for community groups to gain valuable skills and confidence.

“Council is once again partnering with Flying Arts Alliance to give our dedicated community groups the opportunity to gain new skills and improve in the management of special events and festivals, and grant writing,” she said.

“These workshops are designed to help community groups improve their knowledge in these areas as well as gain confidence in their ability to plan and facilitate successful events for our community.

“Though not a requirement, I encourage all interested community groups to attend both of the specialised training workshops, with the Saturday workshop focusing on ‘how to plan and manage a special event or festival’ and the Sunday workshop on ‘how to prepare and write funding/grant applications’.

Cr Tillman said that participants will be encouraged to workshop their own real life activities as part of the workshops.

“I encourage community groups to come along to the sessions with either an idea or an actual event, project or program they are working on to workshop, so that valuable feedback can be directly applied,” she said.

“Participants will also walk away from the workshops with a range of resources which will assist them with future planning processes.”

The workshops will be held from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 February and community groups are welcome to attend either or both days. Spaces are limited, so please book early.

The community workshops are funded by Western Downs Regional Council and facilitated by Flying Arts Alliance.
