Free activities at Seniors week expo

Richard Nickson from the Chinchilla Men’s Shed and Lindsay Marsden of the Friends of the Botanic Parklands group are looking forward to this year’s Senior Expo in Chinchilla.

15 August 2018

Seniors are invited to make their own pot plant hanger, do a painting or join in a yoga session at the upcoming Seniors Week Expo in Chinchilla.

There will be up to 30 community groups, local businesses and interest groups providing either a display or an activity.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Kaye Maguire said that the Chinchilla Seniors Expo has always been very popular.

“We have hands-on activities so that people can take something home with them,” Cr Maguire said.

“The Lapunyah Art Gallery are offering painting and there will be mini yoga sessions again, as they were very popular last year.”

Richard Nickson, President of the Chinchilla Men’s Shed said they have been busy preparing over 50 beautiful terracotta pot plant hanger kits in preparation for the event.

“Most of our members will be working on different elements of the project, we try to accommodate everybody so that anyone who wants to join in this activity is welcome.”

President of the Chinchilla Horticultural Society and member of the ‘Friends of the Botanic Parklands’ group, Lindsay Marsden will also be talking about his involvement in the development of the new Chinchilla Botanic Parklands.

“The Parklands is the culmination of a 40-year dream for me,” he said.

“I first suggested that we turn the old railway lands into parklands back in the 1970’s, when the caravan park and museum were established.

“It’s been a long journey since then, with many involved along the way, and here we are today with the Parklands currently under construction.”

A free morning tea will be provided by the Chinchilla Chaplaincy Committee.
