Fishers Lookout upgrade on track to boast beauty of the Bunyas

Fishers Lookout is set to showcase the beauty of the Bunya Mountains, with a new viewing platform and upgrades to begin later this month.

The new 350 square metre elevated viewing platform will provide a better vantage point to appreciate the beauty of the mountains and the rich cultural history of the area.

Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Paul McVeigh said the works will also complement recent upgrades to the Fishers Lookout Walking Tracks.

“The Bunya Mountains offer such a breathtaking landscape and Fishers Lookout really is the perfect place to take it all in,” he said.

“As well as the elevated viewing platform, the upgrades will involve aesthetic improvements around the existing viewing area including new seating and covered area along with improved car and bus parking space.

“We know people travel from far and wide to see the Bunyas and Council is committed to optimising that experience for tourists and locals alike.”

Bunya Mountains Murri Rangers Ranger Coordinator Alyssa Brown said the work could encourage people to better understand the traditional stories and cultural significance associated with the Bunya Mountains.

“The Fishers Lookout viewing platform will give visitors more of an opportunity to view the cultural landscape of the Bunya Mountains and its beauty.”

The upgrade to Fishers Lookout is funded by the Queensland Government Works for Queensland program and is expected to be completed in June this year.
