Drought affected communities to benefit from new Local Community Events Program

10 May 2017

Not-for-profit groups and community organisations across the region can now access quick response grants of up to $1,000 through Western Downs Regional Council to assist in the running of local community events thanks to funding received under the State Government’s Community Drought Support Program.

  • The Local Community Events Program is designed to provide quick financial support to local community organisations in drought declared communities;
  • Funding will assist in the delivery of a range of local community events and activities that contribute to bringing our communities together and enhancing the social well-being of our residents;
  • Applications must be received at least four weeks prior to the event date to be considered for funding, and can be submitted up until Tuesday 31 October 2017;
  • Community groups and organisations must submit their funding proposal through Council’s online grants platform via Council’s website.

Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire encourages community groups across the region to take advantage of this funding opportunity while it’s available.

“Thanks to the Queensland Government’s Community Drought Support Program we’re excited to be able to give our local not-for-profit groups a helping hand when it comes to delivering their events this year,” she said.

“This is a one off funding program, so I strongly encourage community groups who are planning an event and need a little extra cash to submit an application to Council.

“A little can go a long way, and the Local Community Events Program will assist and support our local community organisations with quick response grants of up to $1,000 so they can continue to bring great events to our drought declared communities in the Western Downs.”
