Council helps local businesses boost their street appeal

10 January 2017

With business confidence on the rise across our region, Western Downs Regional Council are providing our local businesses an added boost by giving them the opportunity to make the most out of their footpaths and passing customers.

  • With no application fees, and no annual fees, Council are encouraging businesses across our region to boost their street appeal;
  • You can now use your footpath for displaying and selling a diverse range of retail, providing a great opportunity for business and customer growth;
  • On-street trading is a great way for local businesses to add to the creation of vibrant, busy and interesting streets.

Council Spokesperson for Planning and Environment Councillor Andrew Smith said with confidence growing across the region now is the time for local businesses to take to the streets to show off their wares and services.

“Our region has a number of fantastic businesses doing great things, and we want to continue to see them thrive and contribute to an active street life in the Western Downs,” he said.

“Continuing our commitment to support and enhance business and retail opportunities in our region we’re cutting back red tape and streamlining application processes for on-street trading.

“From the display of A-frames, retail goods, merchandise and promotions we’re encouraging our local businesses to use the footpath to showcase and strengthen our central business areas as vibrant shopping and social places.

“If you’re interested in exploring the possibility of on-street displays I encourage you to get in contact with Council’s Environmental Health Team who’ll step you through the no-fee application process.”
