Celebrate this Australia Day with inspirational Ambassadors

21 January 2015

Residents and visitors attending Australia Day events throughout the region will celebrate alongside three high-achieving Australians who will be special guests at local Awards ceremonies on Monday 26 January.

Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Ray Brown said the Australia Day Ambassadors have volunteered their time to visit our communities to help present the regional and local winners of the 2015 Western Downs Australia Day Awards.

“The Ambassadors will be visiting our region and taking part in local events to help spread the pride and spirit of our national day. So let’s show them how great our communities are by coming together to celebrate our local heroes this Australia Day,” he said.

“Residents, visitors and award recipients attending the events are sure to be inspired by these three exceptional Australia Day Ambassadors.

“Three-time Paralympian and founder of ‘Sporting Dreams’, Ms Marayke Jonkers will attend events in Dalby and Jandowae. Ms Nicole Gibson, CEO and founder of ‘The Rogue and Rouge Foundation’ will attend events in Chinchilla and Tara. Townsville-based Professor Peter Leggat, AM, is a distinguished medical researcher, writer and volunteer and will be attending events in Wandoan.

“The winners of the Western Downs regional and local Australia Day Awards are sure to feel extra special receiving their awards from such distinguished Australians.”
