CBD Safety Renovation night works along Cunningham Street to start February 1

1 February 2016

Construction of a number of safety improvements along Cunningham Street, Dalby will commence on Monday 1 February, weather permitting.

  • The project is part of an extensive CBD Road Safety review undertaken by Western Downs Regional Council in consultation with businesses, residents and the wider community;
  • Works will be undertaken at night between 6pm and 6am for approximately six weeks and is expected to be completed by 11 April 2016, weather permitting;
  • Works will progressively be undertaken across five intersections along Cunningham Street and temporary intersection closures will be in place;
  • Works include renovations to existing pedestrian crossings and drainage and concrete works;
  • Upon completion, the safety renovations will help to provide a safer pedestrian environment in the CBD and significantly improve visibility for motorists.

Council Spokesperson for Works and Engineering Services Councillor Andrew Smith said Council will make every effort to maintain access to the CBD during the project, but some temporary intersection closures and speed reductions will be needed at different times.

“Council is urging motorists to seek alternative routes during the closure periods and observe all traffic control measures in place whilst travelling through the construction area,” he said.

“Business owners and residents will be kept informed of the night works to limit any inconveniences, and access to properties will be maintained during the works. Normal traffic operations will be in place during the day.

“Council would like to thank motorists, pedestrians and residents in advance for their patience during the construction phase.”
